Summer Reading List: Click Here!

2008 Summer Reading Lists

In response to the state language arts standards which require that students read at least twenty-five books a year, our English Department has again developed summer reading lists for our middle- and high-school English courses. It is suggested that students read over the summer a minimum of two books from the list that applies to the course they will be taking next year.

These books, which introduce major units and themes that are emphasized in grades 7 through 12, prepare students for further reading and exploration of these themes during the school year. Students will not be tested on these books when they return to school in September. As a beginning activity, they will be asked to record the titles they have read over the summer in a book log which will be stored in their Cumulative Communications Portfolio.

Two local bookstores--Barnes and Noble and B Dalton Bookseller in the Nittany Mall--have agreed to make these books available for purchase. Schlow Memorial Library will also have a stock of these titles on hand to lend to students.

We encourage parents and guardians to participate in this activity with their students. Currently, we are in the process of reviewing and adding even more books, so stay tuned for updates! Have a great summer.
