{Culinary Arts}
Program Introduction The CTC Culinary Arts program prepares students for entry-level positions in the hospitality and/or food service industry upon graduation. The program also prepares students to further their education at post-secondary culinary arts and restaurant management schools. Courses
meet two periods per day, five days per week and is available to
students in grades 9-12. The program provides basic and advanced
culinary knowledge and skills, food and equipment safety and
sanitation, menu planning and nutritional analysis of recipes, and
quanity food preparation techniques. Students also participate in
catering experiences for school district and community events and learn
basic restaurant management in the operation of Chatters cafe´. Chatters cafe´ is
a student-based enterprise and a restaurant licensed by the State
College Borough which provides kitchen and front of the house
experience and training.
Students are required to wear uniforms and clothing that may differ from the school dress code guideline due to safety and sanitation standards set by the food service industry. Advanced culinary students will be provided with "ServSafe" safety and sanitation training and certification to all who meet the state standard. |
