Answers to some Frequently Asked Questions about registering for music classes:
- Guitar (F419 or S419) is intended for individuals with little or no previous experience on the guitar or as a follow up to skills learned in general music class at the middle school.
- Students wishing to enroll in Rock Ensemble (Y415) must interview or audition with the teacher of this course and be accepted prior to enrollment. Students in their second year of this course will meet in a separate section.
- Students wishing to participate in the Cecillian Singers (women) or OMA (men) should enroll in Concert Choir (Y408).
- Students playing Violin, Viola, Cello, or String Bass can only enroll in Orchestra. These instruments are not used in any of the bands.
- Ninth Grade Orchestra (Y405) is limited to players of Violin, Viola, Cello, or String Bass. Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion instrumentalists may not enroll in this course.
- Students in band ARE NOT required to participate in Marching Band. Marching Band is a separate extracurricular activity. Information regarding Marching Band will be distributed to current band members in May, and can also be found on the web site.
- It is possible for a ninth grade student to schedule both Ninth Grade Orchestra (Y405) and Ninth Grade Choir (Y410) even though once a week they both appear to meet at the same time. Teachers of those courses work out a schedule to share students.
- It is possible for a ninth grade student to schedule both Ninth Grade Band (Y401) and Ninth Grade Choir (Y410). They each meet twice a week during the second period on different days.
- It is therefore possible for a ninth grade student to participate in Band, Choir, and Orchestra, which all meet during the second period.
- It is possible for a tenth grade student to schedule both Orchestra (Y407) and Tenth Grade Choir (Y411) even though they both appear to meet at the same time. Teachers of those courses work out a schedule to share students.
- It is possible for a student to schedule both Tenth Grade Band (Y402) and Tenth Grade Choir (Y411). They each meet twice a week during the first period on different days.
- It is therefore possible for a tenth grade student to participate in Band, Choir, and Orchestra, which all meet during the first period.
- Students who wish to select Symphonic Band (2403) or Master Singers (2409) must audition with the teacher of those courses and be accepted into the qualifying organizations prior to enrollment
- The single period courses in Symphonic Band (1403), Master Singers (1409), and Orchestra (1406) are offered IN ADDITION to the two period courses for each organization. Students MAY NOT enroll in just the single period course.
- Students who wish to select Advanced Band (Y404), Advanced Choir (Y412), or Advanced Strings (Y407) must audition with the teacher of those courses and be accepted into the qualifying organizations prior to enrollment.
- 10th Grade students enrolling in Advanced Band (Y404) are scheduled for both Tenth Grade Band (period 1 T & F ) and Symphonic Band (period 3 M, W, R)
- 11th and 12th Grade students enrolling in Advanced Band (Y404) are scheduled for both Concert Band (period 3 T & F ) and Symphonic Band (period 3 M, W, R)
- 10th Grade students enrolling in Advanced Choir (Y412) are scheduled for both Tenth Grade Choir (period 1 M & R ) and Master Singers (period 4 T, W, F)
- 11th and 12th Grade students enrolling in Advanced Choir (Y412) are scheduled for Master Singers (Period 4) every day
- 10th, 11th, and 12th Grade students enrolling in Advanced Strings (Y407) are scheduled to meet period 1 every day.
