6th Grade Band and Choir Concert

Instruments

 

Ms. Margaret Shutes:  General Music, Choir mas26@scasd.org

 

Music Class: Meets 2x per 6 day cycle (1/4 2/5 3/6)

       Students learn more effectively by participating in making music through singing,

       composition, movement/dance, and playing instruments (xylophones, drums, hand percussion,
         and acoustic string instruments).      

 

Units: Folk Music...Pa., U.S.A., World music taught through singing, movement, discussion, and

         learning to play instruments representative of various cultures.  During the U.S.A. folk music
         unit, students will learn to play the Appalachian mountain dulcimer.

                    

           Art Music study: few minutes/day, musical periods & composers

           Instruments of the Orchestra

              Composition through technology: GarageBand composition   
            

      

Grades: Issued every 9-week marking period (combination of performance & written work)

 

Choir: Meets once per 6 day cycle, Day 5 during AREA

           A letter will be sent home sharing information and asking for parent/guardian/student

              signatures indicating acceptance of the responsibilities involved with being a
              choir member.
 

           Concert Dates:  December 6, 2012  (with 7th Grade Choir)

                                     May 7, 2013 (with 6th Grade Band)
