  • Updated Academic Calendar for 2015-16

As approved by the SCASD Board of Directors, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will now be a district-wide school holiday for students. Under the revised calendar, there will be no school for students on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, and Friday, Jan. 29, 2016 is now a regular school day. It had been a no school/inservice day. Additionally, the end of the semester is now Jan. 22.

The district administration recommended the change so that families could have more flexibility to observe MLK Day. Though students previously could be excused to participate in community service or attend commemorative events, many students were reluctant to miss class at the semester's end. By having no classes on MLK Day, students will not have to choose between academics and service, and the district encourages families to seek out opportunities that day to honor King's achievements and legacy.

To assist you with planning, here are the updated academic calendar and a list of scheduled days with no school for the 2015-16 school year.
