September:  In the first week of school, fifth grade returning students exhibit their instruments to prospective new students and help them choose which instrument to learn. Once the demonstration program is completed, fifth-graders begin learning repertoire for the November Penn State concert.

 

October:  Six rehearsals on Wednesday mornings take place at Penn State campus in preparation for the concert.

 

November:  Concert with Penn State conductors

 

December: (optional) Pep band appearances at State High sports games.

 

January:  Band and orchestra ensemble rehearsals begin!

 

April:  Spring Concert! Mark your calendars; invite guests

 

May, June:  After the concert, lessons will focus on skills needed for sixth grade, practical and fun repertoire, expanding opportunities with more advanced instrument selections and supplemental performance opportunities.
