Ms. Charlotte Zmyslo joined SCASD on January 4, 1999.  She had moved to State College July 1998 from the Washington, D.C. area where she was a Learning Support Teacher at McLean High School co-teaching in Chemistry; conducting Basic Skills Class for students who were totally mainstreamed; and doing all of the educational testing for new referrals to the high school's special education program. From September to December 1998 she oversaw pre-student teaching candidates for Penn State while completing her Praxis test for her teaching certification in Pennsylvania. She already had received her administrative certification from the state.

Ms. Zmyslo has had extensive classroom experience and, administratively, she has taken on leadership roles throughout her career.  When she was teacher-in-charge for 8 years at Woodmore Elementary School, she would take over whenever the administrator was gone from the building or was guest teaching in the classroom.  Her last year at this school, she also assumed the principalship for 6 weeks when he was in the hospital at the end of the school year.  She had earned the required credits (18) to receive her certificate in administration in the State of Maryland and had completed Prince George's County's 2-year leadership training program to qualify for an administrative position.  She was on Prince George's list to become a principal in the county when she moved to California due to her husband's career.  

 
Ms. Zmyslo's experiences range from curriculum development to adoption of a new transition system for students going from middle school learning support to high school learning support in Monterey.  She closely supervised the Monterey LS students' classroom placements through the use of the counseling department's computerized scheduling program to ensure the students' access to appropriate mainstreamed classes.  She headed the Child Study Teams in all of the schools where she taught special education.  Ms. Zmyslo had extensive training in the area of testing and was responsible for all the educational testing and interpretation in each school district.

Ms. Zmyslo and her newly acquired dog (February 6, 2011), Star, enjoy many walks and a lot of play time everyday. Her son, Jeff, has his home and business in Maryland.
