On-line Acceptable Use Policy
The State College Area School District recognizes the value of using on-line computer resources and networks to gather information, promote communications and enhance student learning. In working to achieve its mission, the district also recognizes the need for responsible, ethical use of these resources in the support of curriculum development, instruction and the business operations of the school district. This policy establishes the parameters in which guidelines and procedures for students, staff and community are to function. Overdue, Lost and Damaged Library Materials Policy The mission of the SCASD libraries is to provide instruction and resources so that every student and staff member becomes lifelong readers, learners, and effective and responsible users of information. To meet this mission it is important for library materials to be returned in a timely manner in good condition. Students and faculty use the materials in the library to complete assignments, explore ideas, and find a wide variety of recreational reading on many levels and topics. Library budgets for new books is limited and it is not possible to replace all of the lost or damaged materials. This means there are fewer and fewer books and other materials for our students and staff to read; and often, the items that are lost or damaged are the very materials that students enjoy the most or are most critical for research. The impact of overdue materials is identical. All borrowers, including all SCASD staff, interns, student teachers, volunteers, parents and students, are included in this Overdue, Lost and Damaged Library Materials Policy. The Borrower of Record is responsible for the safe and timely return of library material even if the material was borrowed to give to another person. Notification of overdue or lost material is a service provided by the library. Failure to receive a notice does not free the borrower of responsibilities. |
