Dear Parents,
As summer approaches, I’m sure you are thinking of ways to maintain your child’s good reading habits. First and foremost, be sure that they read something..... magazines are often a nice change for some students. Craft and project books or cookbooks sometimes offer a new way to “sneak in” some reading!
We will be having Summer Library here at Ferguson this year, on Tuesdays 1:00-3:00, for six weeks, beginning on June 18th. Many thanks to our PTO funding this!! Schlow Library is also offering a wonderful program. Our students heard about this program on May 16th, and received book bags and flyers.
You mayaccess more information about this program on the Schlow Library website. http://www.schlowlibrary.org
Be sure that your child has a free library card so that they may participate!
There are many good series that have been popular with our second graders this year:
A to Z Mysteries (Roy) American Girl (various authors) Arthur Chapter Books (Krensky) Bailey School Kids (Dadey) The Borrowers (Norton) Boxcar Children (Warner) Cam Jansen (Adler) Clementine (Pennypacker) Encyclopedia Brown (Sobol) Fairy Books (Meadows) Horrible Harry (Kline) Jigsaw Jones (Preller) Junie B. Jones (Park) Just Grace (Harper) Kids of Polk Street School (Giff) The Littles (Peterson) Magic Tree House (Osborne) Mallory Books (Friedman) My America (various authors) Nate the Great (Sharmat) Never Sink Nine (Davis) Ruby Lu (Look)
Second graders also enjoy reading nonfiction books and poetry. Picture books are also very popular and appropriate for this age level.
Have a wonderful summer, and keep those pages turning!!!
