The Intramural program is open to all 4th & 5th graders. After school intramurals are held in our school all purpose room or outside on nice days immediately after school until 4:30 PM. No matter what activity is being offered, all students MUST be picked up from either the school, the SCAHS, or Tussey Mountain on time. If any child is consistently late, the intramural coordinator will ask the child to stop coming. Intramurals is for all 4th and 5th graders. Corl Street School offers sessions in the fall, winter and in the spring. In the fall, we have flag football and basketball. In the fall, we also offer swimming, but this activity is held at the SCAHS North Natatorium. Participants are bussed to the high school immediately after school, but parents must pick them up when swimming is over. In the winter, we have volleyball and skiing. Skiing is the only activity that the students have to pay a fee for lift tickets, rental tickets and/or lessons at Tussey Mountain. We do not offer snow boarding as part of the Elementary Intramural Ski Program. A packet explaining all the ski options, prices, and permission slip will be sent home through your school's intramural coordinator. When your child gets the packet, you have to go to Tussey Mountain Ski office to pay for your child's participation. Please do not send money with your child to the school. Intramural skiers go to Tussey Mountain on a school bus and parents must pick them up by 7:00 PM. Every year, Tussey Mountain ski staff and the SCASD intramural staff offer a parent information meeting explaining the ski program. If the winter weather is dangerous for traveling, sometimes we have to cancel skiing or other intramural activities. If school is closed due to inclement weather, all after school activities will be canceled. We will have ski make up days if it is not safe to ski on a particular night. Make up days will be announced during school hours. You can find information about ski conditions or Channel 4 in the community announcement section. As a last resort, you can call Tussey Mountain to find our the ski conditions. Please do NOT call the school office. Your child will phone you as soon as he/she knows of a cancelation. The volleyball program is for all fourth and fifth graders but includes an all elementary school fifth grade only tournament which will be held at the SCAHS North Building. In the spring, we offer track and field. Part of the track and field program includes an all school track meet for all participants at the SCAHS South track. We encourage and invite parents and families to attend both the volleyball tournament and the track meet. The Intramural Program in the State College Area School District requires children to behave in an appropriate manner to insure a positive and safe experience for all of the children. If any child's behavior becomes inappropriate, the coach or the coordinator will notify the parents with a conduct report. A second infraction will result in the child's permanent expulsion from all intramural activities. At Tussey Mountain, skiers are required to follow all of Tussey Mountain's rules for safety. If the safety patrol decides that a student is skiing recklessly or out of control, their ski pass can be revoked. We have trained coaches to guide and teach your child and help the participants enjoy these activities. Permission slips are required and go home every fall, winter and spring with the dates and offerings. Be sure your child is listening to these announcements. Once the form goes home for you to read, it needs to be signed and returned in order for them to participate. Hopefully, your child will sign up for one or all of our activities that we are offering this year. Our building coordinator is Ms. Eve Evans. Her email address is: eke11@scsd.org. |
