Make-up Work

The primary responsibility for making arrangements for make-up work rests on the student. Students are responsible for any and all work missed while absent from school. Credit for make-up work will be limited to those days when the student was legally absent. Credit may be permitted for certain illegal or unlawful absences on an individual basis if approved by the Principal.

If it is known that a student is going to be absent for an extended period of time (a minimum of three school days), the counseling office will collect the assignments from the various teachers. Upon the student’s return to school following an excused absence, the teacher and student will set a deadline for completion of the make-up assignments.

If any examination was scheduled and announced to the students prior to the absence, and the teacher is sure that the student was instructed in all facets of the material covered by the test, it is reasonable to have the student take the exam on the day of his/her return to school.

Homework Collection (extended absences)  If it is known that a student is going to be absent for an extended period of time (a minimum of three school days), the counseling office will collect the assignments from teachers. Assignments will be available for pick-up at 3:30 the FOLLOWING school day. Students who wish to expedite this process are encouraged to e-mail their teachers directly to request assignments for excused absences, regardless of duration. E-mail addresses for all teachers are available on the SCASD website (www.scasd.org). Upon the student's return to school following an excused absence, the teacher and student will set a deadline for completion of the make-up assignments.

Any work assigned before the student’s absence that had a due date occurring during the absence will be expected upon the student’s return taking into consideration that the student has all the necessary information, access, and equipment to fulfill the assignment. If work is not made up within this time frame, it will not be accepted unless otherwise determined by the teacher.
