Welcome to the Mauk Zoo! Below you will see photos of the Mauk family pets.
Roxy & Mudge We adopted Roxy from the SPCA in 2000. She is a lab german sheppard mix. Roxy is a very smart dog and knows some tricks. She can roll over and shake hands. Roxy is gentle and calm. We adopted Mudge from the Humane Society in 2002. We named him after the dog from Cynthia Rylant's Henry and Mudge books. Mudge is a rottweiler mix and he is huge. He weighs 137 pounds and slobbers all over. He is a gentle giant and lets children climb all over him.
Smokey Smokey is a special dog and is not really a pet. Smokey is our family 4-H project. We are raising him for an organization called The Seeing Eye. Smokey needs to learn many things while he lives with us for about one and a half years. We teach him basic obedience and take him to lots of different public places. This summer he went to the movies, the mall, soccer camp and the Arts Festival. These experiences help prepare him for his life as a guide dog. He knows lots of special commands including sit, down, off, forward, and rest. Our family thinks Smokey is exceptionally smart! When he is about 16 months old, he will return to The Seeing Eye for his formal training. Smokey hopes to spend some time at school during the 2007-2008 school year. Bubble Gum This is Bubble Gum. She is a red-eared slider. Bubble gum lives in a big tank in our kitchen. She eats turtle food everyday and we giver her grapes as a special treat. Bubble Gum is a very interesting pet. We like to watch her swim and eat.
Lucky Lucky is our parakeet. We think he is a very lucky bird because we found him outside under our deck in the month of November. Parakeets are not supposed to live outside in the cold! We tried to find his original owner, but we couldn't. Now he lives in our living room and sings all the time!
Snickers Snickers is our pet rabbit. She lives in a hutch in our back yard. She loves to eat carrots and dandelions.
