International Baccalaureate Program (IB) Community Meeting
Description
The State College Area School District is currently exploring the possibility of including the International Baccalaureate Program (IB) as a choice offering within our K-12 district programming. This exploration has emerged from the instructional focus aspect of our Strategic Planning Goals; including “College and Career Ready Graduates” and “Demonstrated Commitment to Self, Community, and Global Citizenship”. The program also supports our “passion for empowering every student – every day – with individualized opportunities for growth and success in a connected world”.
The Board of School Directors formally took action to support the exploration of this program on September 12, 2016. As part of this exploration, our District Leadership Team is planning to hold two community information sessions specific to IB followed by surveys in order to gauge interest and support for this endeavor. Prior to the first information session, and prior to the survey, we will also send information electronically, for those of you who prefer to review the information online prior to taking part in the survey.
The information session will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in the Board Room of the Panorama Village Administrative Center located at 240 Villa Crest Drive, and will be held from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
We are excited about exploring the feasibility of this programming option for our students.
The information and feedback that we are able to obtain at the informational sessions, and through the survey, will enable our District Leadership Team to make an informed recommendation to our Board of School Directors in January 2017, with regards to “formal application” for future IB programming. Thank you for your continued support, as we continue to enhance experiences for our students.
