Pennsylvania DECA State Conference
The 2017 Pennsylvania DECA State Conference yielded the State High DECA chapter’s most impressive showing yet, with 22 students making it to the stage and 10 winning first places.
However, the most exciting moment for the program was State High junior Max Lucas being elected the President of Pennsylvania DECA for the 2017-2018 school year. “From his very first DECA meeting his freshman year, Max knew that he wanted to really get involved and that is exactly what he did,” DECA advisor and business education teacher Marie Potter said.
In his sophomore year, Lucas joined the State High DECA officer team as the parliamentarian, and then became the District 4/5 representative as a junior, landing him the opportunity to run for a state position.
Of the 22 State High students at the DECA state conference, 16 qualified for the DECA national conference. Six others were finalists in their events. Award winners were:
- 1st Place: Griffon Barter, Benjamin Brauser, Derek and Saige Cestone, Patrick Holoviak and Aziz Salamy, David Narehood, Tejas Wein, Ryan Wilson, and Iris Li
- 3rd Place: Justin Bayly, Kyle Engle, and Nicholas Gibson
- 4th Place: Zachiah Cook, Susanna Walter, and Joy Zu
- Finalists (5th or 6th place) Veronika Bucknavage, Annalia Arndt, Robert Hort, Hannah Donnell, Alexa Jordan, and Max Lucas
