State College Area School District
Department of Physical Education
The State College Area School District strives to provide instructional programs and services that contribute to the quality of life. Physical Education involves the learning of skills, the acquisition of knowledge and the development of attitudes through movement. Physical education is that part of the total process of education which utilizes games, sport, aquatics, dance, and health fitness activities to help the individual achieve the goals of education. Well-defined programs of physical education provide a systemic progression of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor experiences as our students pass through various developmental stages during their tenure in school.
Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. Physical activity has also been shown to increase learning in the classroom. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skill, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity. Every course and unit provided within our curriculum is linked to both the Pennsylvania State Standards and the National Standard for Physical Education.
