On June 12, 2017 the SCASD Board of Directors approved the appointment of Shelly Buckholtz as the new Ferguson Township Elementary School principal.

Buckholtz comes to the district from Seneca, Pa., where she most recently worked as a Title I reading coordinator. She replaces Charlotte Zmyslo, who will lead Corl Street Elementary School.

“I am anxious to meet with all of the faculty and staff to gauge where we are today, where we want to be and what we need to make happen to move toward that goal, then work together to achieve it,” Buckholtz said.

During her 24 years in education, Buckholtz also has been a kindergarten teacher, a Title I coordinator, a director of curriculum/federal programs and an adjunct professor at Gannon University. She and her husband, Doug, have two sons ages 26 and 28.

As she prepares for a new year, Buckholtz said she’s “very honored to be joining such a talented staff” and eager to become part of the school community.

“I will listen and learn, and engage as a contributing member of their team in the leadership role as their building principal and instructional leader,” she said. “I look forward to meeting not only the staff but the students, families and members of the community. It is my hope that together we will continue the great successes at Ferguson Township Elementary School!”
