• Fenway Park! Welcome to Academic Literacy with Mrs. Stout!  What an exciting year this will be!  On a more personal note, this is my 3rd year teaching Ac Lit in seventh grade at Mt. Nittany.  My family relocated here 2 years ago.  We love the State College area and I LOVE to work with middle schoolers and help them to become enthusiastic about reading.  Some of my favorite things to do other than teach is spend time with my family, read, run, travel, and play games!  Above is a picture of my family when we had the awesome experience of visiting Boston this summer.  We had the opportunity to see a Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees game.  Can you tell who we were cheering for?

In the Academic Literacy course, you will learn how to become a strategic reader and be more effective with accessing and understanding all types of text.  I will do my best to help you find books that you want to read.  Yes, even those of you who won't choose to pick up a book on your own, may finally find an author or a genre that you actually enjoy!  I like to be active so although it is Academic Literacy class, you will be moving and discussing quitea bit.  Also, one of my favorite things about teaching is getting to know you as a person, not just a reader.  Be prepared to share what motivates you and makes you happy outside of school.  I look forward to meeting you soon!

For class you will need to bring a self-selected book, a pencil, a few highlghtesr, and a binder each day!  Refer to the Purple Pack suppy list for more details.  Also, bring your best attitude!
