Hello! I'm Dr. Sarah Rochette, School Psychologist for Radio Park Elementary. I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself.
Education & Training
I began my training at Boston University, where I obtained my B.S. in Psychology in 1999, with a minor in Rehabilitation Counseling. I spent the next two years obtaining experiences in the outpatient mental health clinic at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA, and providing Therapeutic Staff Support services through Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Service (BHRS) agencies in Mifflin, Juniata, and Centre counties in Pennsylvania. I then began my graduate training, earning my Master’s in education and then my doctoral degree in School Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University in 2008. I have had my Pennsylvania certification in School Psychology since 2005. In 2005, I assisted in providing school psychological services for Juniata Valley School District. I have been employed in the State College Area School District since the 2005-2006 school year. I went on to obtain my National Certification in School Psychology (NCSP) in 2014, and also became licensed as a psychologist in Pennsylvania in 2015. In an effort to contribute to the education of school psychology students in training, I also provide supervision to school psychology graduate students during their practicum placements or doctoral internship year, and provide occasional supervision of graduate student clinicians in the Penn State CEDAR School Psychology Clinic. I have been trained in the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule - Second Edition (ADOS-2), and am also trained in Safety Care.
My Role in the State College Area School District
I am currently the school psychologist for Radio Park Elementary School. At Radio Park, I provide consultation to parents and teachers regarding children’s academic, social-emotional, mental health and behavioral needs, collaborate in providing interventions, analyze student data, complete psychoeducational evaluations to determine children’s eligibility and need for special education and gifted education services, as well as complete preschool transition evaluations, functional behavioral assessments (FBAs), educational screenings, and 504 Plan evaluations. I provide individual and group social skill interventions as needed. At Radio Park, I am a core member of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Team, Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtII) data team and building-level team, School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Team, Traumatic Events/Crisis Team, Strategic Planning, as well as Multidisciplinary Evaluation Teams as needed for individual students. I was also involved in the district-level committee to revise and update the pre-referral process for English Learners. Each year, I provide supervision to a Penn State school psychology graduate student during their year-long practicum placement, as they gain experience in providing school psychological services, including completing psychoeducational assessments and implementing academic and behavioral interventions. I also collaborate with outside providers and agencies to help to coordinate mental health care and behavioral support for children and connect families with community resources.
