Helpful information to use throughout the year!

Absence - If your child is unable to be at school, please provide a written excuse within 3 days of the absence. These excuses should be sent to school in your child’s daily folder. Also, on the day of the absence make sure that you have called the Safe at School line to report their absence.
Behavior Management - Everyone makes mistakes, but it is important to learn from them. In our classroom we follow the Schoolwide Positive Behavior Plan.
Birthdays - Our class will celebrate every child's birthday this year with a song and a small present. If you would like to send in a treat for your child's birthday, please try to let me know at least 24 hours in advance so we can make the proper arrangements! If I do not have advanced notice, we may not be able to have the treat until the following day. (Summer birthdays are welcome to celebrate on their half birthday or in June if they would like.)
Book Orders - Each month we will be sending home a packet of Scholastic Book Club catalogs. Ordering from these catalogs is a great way to supplement your child's home library and we earn points for books in our classroom! You can place orders online at www.scholastic.com/parentordering. You will need to use the information below. Paper orders sent in with a check are also accepted.

Family Message Journals - Most Fridays, your child will bring home their Family Message Journal with a letter written by them to someone at home. Please take the time to respond to their letter and return the journal Monday morning or at least before the following Friday.
Field Trips - This year, our class will take various trips throughout our community. Please return permission slips promptly with the medication box checked off and take note of the dates and times of trips.
Homework - Homework each night will be for your child to read. Throughout the year there will also be math homework sent home to complete and return. Unfinished work may also be sent home at times for your child to complete.
Lunch - Lunch is at 11:15 each day. Feel free to come and eat with your child in the cafeteria. If you would like to order a school lunch for yourself, please let me know which lunch you would like by 9:00 a.m.
Lunch Money - When sending in lunch money, please place it in a baggie or envelope labeled with your child’s name. Make sure this envelope is put in your child’s daily folder or it may not be found.
Newsletters - At various times throughout the year you will receive parent letters addressing what curriculum topics are being covered. You will also get bi-weekly electronic newsletters about specific activities and happenings in our classroom!
Parties - This year we will have 3 major celebrations that will be planned by our Room Parents. These celebrations will be near Halloween, Winter Break, and Valentine’s Day.
Reading - I ask that your child read or be read to every night. This is the number one way to improve your child’s reading, writing, and vocabulary. It will also help expand their knowledge about the world around them.
