Summer Assessment
In early August, parents of students who are registered for kindergarten will be contacted by their child's school to schedule a brief kindergarten pre-assessment time. Parents will be asked to bring their child to school to meet with the instructional support teacher. The pre-assessment will take about 10 minutes to administer and will provide us with some initial screening information we can use to plan for instruction. Please know that students entering kindergarten are not expected to be able to read or even know all of their letters and sounds - that is the job of kindergarten! If the schedule of pre-assessment times conflicts with your summer schedule, we will assess your child during the first two weeks of school. Attending this pre-assessment session will give you and your child a chance to see your new school and meet the instructional support teacher.
