Specials Classes
Art
Kindergarten children attend a weekly art class for 50 minutes with a certified art teacher. The art teacher works collaboratively with the kindergarten teachers to create projects that support the kindergarten units and that foster artistic expression for young children.
Library
Kindergarten children attend a weekly library class for 50 minutes with a certified librarian. The librarian familiarizes children with the library and shows them how to select books from the Everyone section. Kindergarten children may select two books to sign out during each library class, and is welcome to return them and select new ones as frequently as every day if they choose to do so. Kindergarten children attend a weekly music class for 50 minutes with a certified music teacher. They begin to learn the basics of rhythm, song, and dance through music geared towards kindergarten children. The music teachers work very hard to help children feel confident with their musical talents! Kindergarten children attend a weekly health and physical education class for 50 minutes with a certified physical education teacher. They work on basic coordination and exercise skills while having fun in a game environment. Kindergarten children participate in a weekly STEM class where they engage in the engineering design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, and improve as engineers. Their units include Engineering is Elementary units from the Boston Museum of Science - Raising the Roof and Designing Trash Collectors, and Technology in Action units where students code, use robotics, and engage in collaborative problem solving.
