THERAPEUTIC COMPONENT
The model is designed to have a special education teacher, an aide, and a mental health counselor who work in the classroom full-time as a cooperative team to address the educational, behavioral and mental health needs of the student. Outside of the classroom for part of the day, a trained mental health counselor provides students group counseling services. The staff to student ratio is intentionally low to provide extensive and intensive social skills training on a daily and consistent basis in conflict resolution, anger management, problem solving, relationship building, and character education. Students also receive individual and family therapy services, provided by a Master’s level therapist, in the school setting.
