Spring 2024 Lifeguard Training - Review course:Course Dates and Times: TBA** In order to re-certify American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, all individuals must participate in a Lifeguard Training Review Course. Challenge courses are no longer permitted. If a certification expires, the ENTIRE Full course must be retaken. There are no exceptions--This is the policy of the American Red Cross. **This course is designed to review the lifeguard's skills. If a candidate is admitted into the class, they are expected to know and perform all skills which were required to pass the original lifeguard course. Since these lifeguards possess a current certification, the expectation for them to be able to proficiently perform all skills is mandatory: not only for this class, but as a certified lifeguard at the workplace as well. This course will not "Reteach" the skills learned in the full course. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS; THIS HAS BEEN A MISCONCEPTION IN THE PAST. If an individual is not able to pass the required skills proficiently, they will not be re-certified and will need to take the full course again to gain certification. CURRENT LIFEGUARDS ARE EXPECTED TO KNOW AND PERFORM SKILLS CORRECTLY!**If all requirements (skills, testing, etc.) are completed earlier than the last date scheduled, the course will end at an earlier date as deemed appropriate.**Attendance at all class sessions is MANDATORY**.
The pre-test skills you must perform on the first day are as follows:
1. Swim 300yards continuously:
*Participants may choose to swim front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both
*Competency in all aspects of the strokes, especially breathing and kicking, is required
2. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breast stroke, surface dive 10feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object, keeping the face out of the water, and exit the pool without using steps or a ladder, within1 minute, 40 seconds.
3. Tread water for 2 minutes without support or stopping. Only legs can be used, with hands under the armpits. Head must remain out of the water.
