SCASD Students and Parents
The tutoring center will begin January 15, 2020.
What is the V.I.P.S Tutoring Center?
The VIPS program provides students in the State College Area School District, grades K-12, with no-cost tutoring. The program benefits all members of the SCASD community through a collaborative approach that encourages responsibility, builds self-esteem, and improves learning skills.
Where is the Tutoring Center located?
The VIPS Tutoring Center is located in the State College Area High School Cafeteria. Parents of students in K-8 are responsible for dropping off and picking up their children.
What are the hours?
The Tutoring Center is open every Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., except on inservice days and school closures or when otherwise indicated. Tutors and times are assigned in advance, this is not a drop-in service. Once the supervisor has identified a tutor that will match your student's needs, you will receive an email with more information.
Who are the tutors?
The vast majority of our tutors are PSU students. We sometimes also have local community members, current and retired teachers who wish to volunteer their time and services.
Our volunteers offer assistance in the following subject areas:
Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Languages, English as a Second Language, and Elementary Studies
How do I get to the tutoring center?
By car: From Penn State head south/east on Atherton Street. Turn right onto Westerly Parkway. The High School will be on the left hand side of the road, after the Weis shopping plaza.
By bus: Take the “R” or "RC" bus.
Any questions can be directed towards the VIPS Supervisor who is best reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
