Each year, students at Radio Park learn about plant life cycles by starting seeds in kits provided by the garden team. Once they sprout, they are transferred to the growlights in the lobby area. Because we will end up with hundreds of seedlings, only a portion of the plants will go into the school garden. Many others will find their way to vegetable gardens at the homes of the students. Others go to a local church that has a very large garden, and the produce goes to local food pantries. Some grades plant different plants (or seeds) directly in the garden. They then return in the fall, in the next grade up, to harvest and cook! The fifth grade students, before going to middle school, plant potatoes for the incoming kindergarten students to dig for stone soup!
