Clove Currant (Ribes oderatum)
This beautiful shrub has multi-season beauty. Spring brings a profusion of yellow blossoms with a strong clove scent. Summer shows the arching stems with green leaves. Later in summer, berries ripen over a few weeks. Yellow leaves in autumn give way to dark stems in winter. This plant was one sent back from the midwest from the Lewis and Clark expedition. One of our favorite plants!
We have made a good barbeque sauce from these berries. They are not quite sweet enough to enjoy eating fresh..
