Welcome to First Grade Miss Housel's Class, Room 252

  •

Welcome to first grade in Room 252 at Easterly Parkway Elementary! This year is going to be a fun and exciting one! We have 19 amazing students, myself, and a paraprofessional in our classroom. Academic success is important and all efforts will be taken daily to make school a comfortable place to grow and communicate together.

    Supplies:
This year our PTO has graciously provided all of your child’s school supplies! (Thank you EP PTO!!!) As a result, I am only requesting the donation of a few items if you are able. Please send the following items to school with your child over the next two weeks if you are able.

    1. 1 container of Clorox Wipes
    2. 1 foaming hand soap
    3. 1 box of quart size or gallon size ziplock bags (with the sliding zipper)
    4. 1 or 2 boxes of Kleenex Tissues
    5. 1 pair of headphones or earbuds (preferably with a built-in microphone for easier

technology use). Please open the headphones and label them with a sharpie/tape label BEFORE sending them into school.

ITEMS THAT YOUR CHILD SHOULD BRING ON THE FIRST DAY
    -individually packaged snack
-water bottle labeled with your child’s name
-charged Chromebook with Clever badge, charger, and headphones as listed above
-at least one mask to wear (it would be helpful for your child to have an extra mask in a

bag in their backpack at all times)

-lunch if your child isn’t getting the school-provided lunch
-sunscreen if desired (This should be applied before school and if brought to school to apply more throughout the day, your child will need to apply this to themselves as teachers are not allowed to do this.)

NOT REQUIRED, BUT DONATIONS THAT ARE APPRECIATED
    -1 bottle of hand sanitizer
    -Roll of paper towels
-Individually packaged bulk snacks (In kindergarten, the teachers provided snack. Each student should bring their own snack daily in first grade!)

    Thank you so much!

    August 2021

    Hello everyone!

Welcome to first grade in Room 252! My name is Miss Housel and I will be your child’s first grade teacher this year! There is something magical about first grade and I can’t wait for you to join me on what is sure to be an exciting journey!

I have been a teacher since 2014 with all of my time teaching in SCASD! I joined EP (from PFE) in 2015 as a fourth grade teacher. I have taught 4th grade for most of my career, but I’m excited to be in 1st grade again for the third year in a row now!

We are going to have an amazing time this year! We will become even BETTER readers than we already are, become number experts, learn all sorts of new math skills, and work on author and illustrator skills in writing. This year we will also be field testing some new science units together. More information about these units will be coming in the future. We will also work on being respectful and responsible members of our class, school, and local community!

This summer, I spent a lot of time with my mom, Tammy, my dad, Garret, my brother, Colton, and my sister-in-law, Mikayla. We enjoyed spending time outdoors, eating lots of ice cream at a local ice cream parlor, and playing games together. I also enjoy campfires and going to the beach. We all had an enjoyable summer and I can’t wait to hear about what you all did this summer as well! I hope to see you all at the Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, August 18th between 3:00pm and 3:30pm! Please contact me before that, though, if you have any questions or concerns. I have found email to be the most efficient means of parent communication for me, so please don’t hesitate to drop me a line.

I am so excited to start a great year with you on Tuesday, August 24th!

Please let me know that you have received this email by responding to me with 3 words that describe your child!

    Excitedly,

    Katie Housel
