Degrees and Certifications:
Hi! My name is Katie Housel. This is my sixth year of teaching. I graduated from Penn State in May of 2014 with a degree in Childhood and Early Adolescent Education. During my senior year at Penn State, I was a part of the Professional Development School Partnership with the State College Area School District. I was an intern in a first and second grade mulit-age classroom at Park Forest with Mrs. Hopkins. Five years ago, I taught fourth grade students also at PFE. I am so happy and grateful to be a part of the Easterly Parkway community for many more school years to come! I enjoyed working with primary and intermediate-aged students over the past six years and am excited for what my first graders will teach me this year. The best part about being a teacher is that I get to spend five days a week with young minds that are always ready to learn.
Professionally, I also obtained my Master's degree from Penn State in May 2018 with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Children's Literature.
I live in Port Matilda, PA with my mom (Tammy), dad (Garret), and younger brother (Colton). I have lived in Port Matilda all my life. School and family keep me very busy but, in my free time, I enjoy being in the outdoors, watching wrestling and softball/baseball, relaxing at the Outer Banks, cooking and baking, reading, shopping, and exercising.
Here are a list of my favorite things:
Food: deep fried mozzarella and Hershey's Moose Tracks Ice Cream
Sport to watch: college wrestling (GO PSU!!)
Sport to Play: softball
