PTO Committee Descriptions
Ferguson Township Elementary PTO Committee Descriptions (2018-19)
Art Expo/Science Fair – Children display any and all types of art projects they may have created throughout the year and/or display science projects they have completed at home. Volunteers are needed to organize, set-up, provide feedback to the students, and tear down this event.
Baking/Cooking as needed – Volunteers help to provide donations of baked and/or cooked items for a variety of events throughout the year (for example: snacks for Teacher Appreciation, cookies for the PJ Party).
Basket Raffle – This committee organizes the collection of items, decoration of baskets, and distribution and display of baskets on Bingo Night. Volunteers also help publicize the event and help with raffle ticket sales.
Bingo Night – This committee helps to run the Bingo Night (set-up, hand out bingo cards, staff the prize table, check for valid bingos, clean up)..
Book Fairs – Volunteers help to set-up and take-down book displays, staff the teacher and student previews, and sell books during the events. Some of the volunteer hours are during the school day and/or during conference days. As little as one hour is greatly appreciated! The book fairs benefit our general fund and provide books to our school library and classrooms.
Book Swap – Volunteers publicize the event to FTE families, organize incoming donations, and schedule times with teachers for students to visit the swap. The most help is needed during the event, in helping children pick books. This event is held every other year; the next book swap will be held in the spring of 2020.
Box Tops – Last year, we earned over $1000 for our school by collecting Box Tops for Education. This committee helps to organize and count the donated Box Tops for submission; almost all of the work can be done at home at your convenience.
Donuts with Dad – Help our kids enjoy special time with dads, step dads, grandparents, uncles and other male role models by helping organize donations and activities, setting up, serving, and cleaning up.
Ferguson Fun Run –. We will need help on race day with handing out water, monitoring the race course, and supporting students and staff as needed.
Holiday Craft Fair –Organize and solicit crafters (adults and children) to provide affordable items for kids to purchase for family and friends. Help with advance flyer distribution, organizing, and set-up and clean up on the day of the event.
Ice Cream Social – This event gives students a chance to come to school and meet their new teacher and enjoy some ice cream while playing with their friends on the playground. Assistance is needed to hand out This event is held on an evening the week before school starts.
Marianna’s Hoagies Fundraisers – Several times during the school year, we sell Marianna’s Hoagies as a fundraiser. Volunteers help to sort and hand out orders on the delivery dates.
Picture Day – Volunteers are needed to help keep things moving (organizing lines of students, etc.) on picture days (in the fall and spring).
School Supplies – For the past several years, the PTO has purchased the majority of back-to-school supplies for all of the students! This committee helps to coordinate the supply order (with teachers and vendors) and sorts the supplies for delivery to classrooms in August.
Spirit Wear – Help to collect and tally orders. Help sort and distribute items to students upon receipt from supplier.
Spring Clean-Up – Help to show your appreciation for our school facility! Volunteers help do small jobs around the school grounds (for example, spreading mulch and planting flowers). This event is usually held in May.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation – Plan and organize events to show appreciation for teachers and staff (luncheons, breakfasts, desserts, etc.). Donate items (usually food/baked goods) for teacher appreciation events. Help set-up and clean up on designated days.
TerraCycle Recycling – Have you seen the army of recycling containers outside the multi-purpose room? FTE students are helping our planet and raising money for our school by recycling items that otherwise would have gone into the trash. Volunteers will help box the donations to send to TerraCycle for reimbursement.
Talent Show – This event showcases the many talents of our Ferguson students. Help is needed to organize the “acts” and ensure the event runs smoothly.
Yearbook – Calling all photographers! Help is needed to take pictures during school and PTO events. We would also welcome help with order taking, soliciting business ads, and distribution of the yearbook.
Other help as needed – This category explains itself! Sometimes we just need an extra set of helping hands.
There are always additional opportunities evolving, too, thanks to the creativity and brainstorming of our members. We invite you to join us at monthly PTO meetings to keep apprised of the activities outlined above – as well as many others!
