About Mrs. Shockey
I have been teaching in the SCASD since the 2003-2004 school year. For the this school year, I teach Introductory Calculus and Advanced Precalculus.
I love teaching math and I love helping students develop new math skills in a comfortable and fun classroom. I truly believe that I am good at presenting new math concepts, answering the "How?" and the "Why?", and stressing the importance of understanding math, not just doing math.
However, there is so much more to my job than just teaching math. It is my mission to help my students grow into accountable young adults who are prepared to be independent and productive members of our community. In addition to teaching problem-solving skills, I stress the importance of being accountable for one's own learning and success. I expect students to be resourceful. This includes checking Google Classroom for notes, answer keys, the daily agenda, and assignments. This also includes using solution sets to check the accuracy of their work on a daily basis. I want my students to be resilient, persistent, and develop confidence in their ability to learn new things!
