Thanks for stopping by!  I'm Melanie Wassom, and in my view I have the best job in the world.  As an art teacher, it's a wonderful privilege to work with children caught up in the creative process.

Since graduating from the University of Mary Washington (BA in Studio Arts, 1997),  I have worked as an Americorps* VISTA volunteer, as Education Assistant for School and Teacher Programs at Carnegie Museum of Art, and as a middle school art teacher in several PA school districts.  I began teaching at Park Forest and Corl Street Elementary Schools in 2013.  In the 2016-17 school year, I'm excited to meet students at Lemont Elementary on Fridays.

My husband Brady and I have two daughters, and we're grateful to be raising them in beautiful central PA.  Living in State College has encouraged our entire family's creative growth.  We love to create things in many different media through painting, gardening, cooking, sewing, music-making, writing, and more.  The four of us love to share good books, watch classic movies, hike at Shingletown Gap, play soccer, and enjoy family dinners.

Here's wishing you a wonderful new school year!  I look forward to spending time together!
