Thanks for stopping by!  I'm Melanie Wassom, and in my view I have the best job in the world.  It's a privilege to work with children caught up in the creative process.

I studied studio arts at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia and Art Education at Carlow University in Pittsburgh.  I worked as an Americorps* VISTA volunteer, at the Carnegie Museum of Art, and as a middle school art teacher before moving to State College. I started teaching for SCASD in 2013 and have enjoyed time at Corl Street, Lemont, and Park Forest Elementary.

My husband Brady and I have two daughters, a dog, a cat and a fish. We're grateful to live in such a beautiful place that has encouraged our family's creative growth.  We love to create things in many different media through painting, gardening, cooking, sewing, music-making, writing, and more.  The four of us love to share good books, watch classic movies, hike at Shingletown Gap, play soccer, and enjoy family dinners.

Here's wishing you a wonderful school year!  I look forward to spending time together!
