Thanks for stopping by!  I'm Melanie Wassom, and I love working with children caught up in the creative process. I've been a Pennsylvania public educator for more than 20 years.  I've studied studio arts at the University of Mary Washington, French and art history at the Sorbonne, and Art Education at Carlow University.  Before moving to State College in 2011, I worked as an Americorps* VISTA volunteer, at the Carnegie Museum of Art, and as a middle school art teacher in the Pittsburgh and Philly areas. I started teaching for SCASD in 2013, and I've enjoyed time at Park Forest, Corl Street, Lemont, and Spring Creek Elementary Schools.

My husband Brady and I have two daughters, two dogs, and a cat who is queen of the house. We're grateful to live in such a beautiful place that has encouraged our family's creative growth.  We love to create things in different media through painting, gardening, cooking, sewing, music-making, writing, and more.  The four of us love to share good books, watch classic movies, hike at Shingletown Gap, play soccer, and enjoy family dinners.

Here's wishing you a wonderful school year!  I look forward to spending time together!
