Catalog Description:
Students explore areas of business including marketing, business law, economics and personal finance, accounting, international business, management and entrepreneurship in a laboratory setting using Microsoft Office. They use interactive multimedia, multimedia case studies and problem-solving skills. This course will have guest speakers and students will take field trips to expand their understanding of career opportunities in the expanding world of business.
Goals & objectives for the course:
Students will know the various steps in the accounting cycle.
Students will know the various aspects of marketing a product.
Students will know that there are various types of laws that affect business operations.
Students will know that economics is important to both business and personal decisions.
Students will know that international business impacts society.
Students will know the four functions of management.
Students will know basic concepts in starting a business.
Students will build a foundation of skill in career development, communication, and technology.
Students will understand that there are many career opportunities available in the business world.
Students will understand that various communication skills are necessary to succeed in the business world.
Students will understand that word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software applications are essential in the business world.
Students will understand that all aspects of business must work together to be successful.
Evaluation Procedures:
Students will be evaluated in several different forms of assessment. They will be expected to take written exams, complete homework, participate in class discussions as well as group projects and simulations.
Attendance:
Attendance in this class is essential in order for the students to be successful as well as to learn the material. When a student is absent they should email the instructor to see what was missed in class. If a student is absent on a due date, they are responsible for getting the work to the instructor on that day regardless if they are in class or not.
