Many people volunteer their time to help in the daily library tasks. Each year they give many hours of valuable service. We could not run the kind of library program we have without this help and support! Contact us for more information on our volunteer opportunities at gwlib@scasd.org

    Our Program and Materials...

The Gray's Woods Elementary School Library is an integral part of all student learning and serves as an extension of the classroom. The teachers and librarian often collaborate to plan and teach units of study throughout the year.

The library collection supports the curriculum and has thousands of picture books, fiction, nonfiction, biographies, reference and magazines for students to checkout. Materials in our library are selected following the guidelines of the State College Area School Board's Policy for the Selection of Library Material.

The library is open from 8:00am until 3:30 p.m. during the school year. Students come during scheduled library periods as well as individually and in small groups for book selection, instruction, story time and research.

    Borrowing Materials...

The number of books that a student may borrow varies from one classroom to another. The book loan period is one week (except reference books which are overnight books only). If students are not done reading their books, they may bring them in to renew for another week (or day). If books are not returned or renewed after two weeks, overdue notices are given to the students.Notices are mailed to parents if books are long overdue. Visit our district How to Borrow a Book web page for additional information.

Lost or damaged books must be paid for by the students. Any lost book that reappears within a timely period and in good condition results in a refund. Visit our district Policies and Procedures web page for additional information.

    Searching the library collection...

We have a web-based public access catalog (Web PAC). Students are able to access this online catalog through ten student computer workstations in our library or anywhere there is a computer with Internet access. Families can search and view our collection in the comfort of their homes. Click here to search our web-based catalog and other library resources.
