Students will develop skills and proficiencies needed for employment and or post-education in Architectural, Engineering, Landscape Architecture or Architectural Engineering fields such as structural, civil, electrical, mechanical and construction management. Lab oriented projects, construction site field trips, and professional guest speakers occur throughout the school year. Competitive extracurricular activities with the Technology Student Association (TSA) and Architectural Club allow students to further explore architecture and engineering.Students will start out by learning the basic drafting tools used by today's private architectural and engineering firms. Students will then apply those basic skills to design, draft and build a model of a home. Advanced classes will educate students on the structural, electrical, and mechanical components of a home and preparing cost estimates. The final class is to help students prepare for college and the workforce. Project presentations, speeches, professional-looking portfolios, and interviewing skills are part of this course. Many of the program's students have pursued post-education degrees from accredited colleges of architecture, engineering, architectural engineering and landscape architecture.About Mr. CrawfordI have a passion for teaching students about architecture and related fields. I am a 1981 State High graduate and helped my junior year transform the then mechanical drafting program into the current architectural drafting and design program. After high school, I graduated with a degree in architecture, then a business degree and worked in a local architectural/engineering firm for 10 years. I started my own local drafting and design company in 1985, providing drawings for residential additions, renovations, and new homes in the Centre Region.
