The Architectural Drafting and Design program provides students the opportunity to explore the world of architecture, architectural engineering, interior design and landscape architecture. Students will develop skills and proficiencies needed for employment and/or post-secondary education in these fields of study. The courses are a combination of lab oriented projects and classroom studies. Many projects are independent with the student deciding on their own design once they have been taught the fundamentals of the project and the project requirements. Field trips and guest speakers occur throughout the school year when opportunities arise.
Students will start out with learning the basic drafting tools used by today’s private architectural firms. Students will then apply those basic skills to design, draft and build various models. Advanced classes dive deeper into the design process, including construction documents, water colors, college and professional looking models. Students are provided time to prepare for the workforce and college with such items as compiling a portfolio, delivering speeches, and interviewing skills. Letters or Recommendation are provided as requested for workforce and college applications.
