“The founders [of IB] wanted IB students to feel like Lewis and Clark mapping the unexplored Louisiana Territory with eyes open to all possibilities, and not feel so much like cyclists pedaling frantically to beat all their competitors in the Tour de France, without any time to stop and appreciate what they were seeing” (Matthews, Hill 48)
In that spirit, this course is an exploration of the history of the Americas from the 1880s through today. It is not the history of our country, but a history of all the countries in this hemisphere. Understanding and appreciating the shared and varied experiences of the North, Central and South Americas is a goal we will strive to achieve.
We will be using Canvas for assignments, grades, and course resources. Grades will be posted in Canvas.
