    Parent Information Station: Making sense of our At Home Learning platform

    Please refer to this webpage regularly to check announcements, assignments, and important links. If your child is having difficulty with an assignment or is unsure of what she/he is supposed to do, please contact me or have your child contact me. Students should participate in Morning Meetings (M, W, F at 10) and Office Hours (Tuesdays Math/Open and Thursdays for ELA, both at 10). We also have Snack Bunch (Tuesdays at 1:15) and Fifth Grade Recess (Wednesdays at 1:00).

    When checking for assignments, start at the At-Home Learning Classroom. Check the Stream page for announcements and the Classwork page for the menu. Then move to the other classroom pages.

     

    Week of April 13th

    Reading

    • Poetry- the students will select one of three poems linked on their Digital Reading Workshop Google Classroom. They will read the poem, noticing the literary elements. They will open the linked question form and answer the questions about their poem. They need to link, type, or paste their answers onto a slide in their Digital Reader's Response Notebook. They were supposed to have created this google slide presentation the first week of at home learning. This is due by Friday.
    • Choice Reading- Focus on Character Change...Students will reflect on how a major character in their choice book has changed over time. They will reflect on events in the story that contributed to the change. They are to write a reflection describing how the character changed and how the author showed the change. This assignment needs to by typed, linked, or pasted onto a titled slide in their Digital Reader's Response Notebook. This is due by Friday.
    • Optional Learning Opportunities- Students should try to select one optional experience from the Virtual Field Trips or Rainy Day Activities. They may reflect on the experience onto a slide in their Digital Reader's Response Notebook, but this is optional.

     

    Writing

    • Please check to see if your child has completed last week's assignments (Slices of Life: Letter to Dr. Mark; See, Wonder, Think)
    • Slices of Life (daily)-This assignment is located in the Writing Workshop Google Classroom. Due daily.
    • See, Wonder, Think- This activity was assigned last week and was due Thursday. However, I told the students they could have until Tuesday, April 14th to finish it. Their project needs to be typed, linked, or pasted onto a titled slide in their Digital Writer's Notebook. 
    • Friendly Letter to a senior living at The Villages. The instructions for this writing activity can be found on the Writing Workshop Google Classroom. This project is due by Wednesday.
    • Toy Photography-This activity is described on the main learning menu located on the Homeroom Google Classroom. This project is due by Friday.

     

    Flipgrid Project

    Students will make a very brief Flipgrid video of themselves greeting their Book Buddy/Buddies. The instructions for this project are linked on their At Home Learning Room 204 (Homeroom) Google Classroom. This needs to be done by Tuesday afternoon.

    Optional Learning Opportunities: Students are encourages to try some of the optional extensions listed on the Homeroom Google Classroom. These include the Now Dos on the menu, virtual field trips, hands-on activites, and engaging reading and writing projects.

    Math: Ask your child to show you his/her math teacher's google classroom and assignments.
