Hi, families! My name is Katy Cassell, and I will be your child's teacher this year. This is my first year at Park Forest and my first year in fourth grade! Prior to teaching at PFE, I taught first grade at Ferguson Township Elementary, was a guest teacher in the district for a year, and taught sixth grade math in Tennessee. I'm so excited to have the opportunity to teach fourth grade. Fourth grade was my favorite year of elementary school, and I hope it will be your child's favorite, too. :)
My husband, Alex, and I moved to State College in 2019 and LOVE living in Happy Valley! I am originally from Tennessee and grew up in a small town northeast of Nashville. I attended East Tennessee State University and graduated in 2018 with a degree in Elementary Education. My mom is a teacher, my grandmother was a teacher, and my mother-in-law is a retired teacher, so you could say teaching runs in my family!
While we don't have any pets here in State College, I think of my family's dog as my own! Cricket still lives in Tennessee with my parents, and I miss her so much! My favorite part of going back home is spending lots of time with her, whether it's playing ball with her in the yard or lying on the hammock together.
I have many interests outside of school. I love to travel, cook, work out, and attend sporting events (hockey games are my favorite). I enjoy lots of creative outlets too, and I love to write, paint, and play music. A fun fact about me is that I am currently learning how to play the violin! I'm not very good yet, but it's so fun getting to be a student and learn a new skill.
We're going to have an awesome year in fourth grade!
