Course Content and Techniques:
This course will cover all aspects of film music and sound design, including lighting techniques, SFX, scene transition styles, diegetic and nondiegetic music, image tracking, and more. All aspects of film production play a role in the musical and SFX soundscape of a film. Students will explore how music changes the mood and interpretation of a scene and how the role of music in movies has changed over the decades. Clips of movies will be watched and discussed in class, and students will work on multiple projects, both individually and as a whole class.
Objectives:
Students will leave this course with the ability to recognize and discuss techniques of film sound design. They will create soundscapes to various media both individually and collaboratively.
