Re: Strategic focus areas for the 2021-2022 school year

    Date: October 28, 2021

On Monday, Oct. 25, we shared strategic focus areas for 2021-2022 with the Board and engaged in productive discussions. We hope that we helped to clarify the status of many of our present and future district actions, including those aligned to both our strategic plan and the implementation of actions directly related to Board policy. During the small group discussions, members of our leadership team were able to field your questions and engage in conversations about what’s occurring across the district, as well as the importance of supporting our faculty and staff during this unique year. We appreciate Board member feedback, which we’ve included in the attached document. Taken as a whole, several common remarks show support for actions focused on health, safety, and well-being and student learning loss — two major priority areas for 2021-2022.

As we consider future full Board and committee agenda planning regarding progress updates on various initiatives, we will reflect on the feedback provided by Board members. In addition, we believe Board members will find their colleague’s wide-ranging thoughts informative and helpful when engaging each other, district administrators, and community members while we move through the 2021-2022 school year.

Although many of the areas in the included document are a result of Board approval/action (e.g. - health & safety plan, policy changes), some still require Board approval to be enacted (e.g. - 2022-2023 district budget, K-8 attendance area review, updates to strategic plan). Looking ahead, we will collaborate with the board president and vice president, as well as committee chairs, to plan for progress updates on already approved initiatives and proposed actions requiring Board approval.
