We offer three courses in this program as listed below. In these courses, student achievement is measured by observed growth, work habits, problem-solving ability, cooperation, understanding of content, and project work.  We also offer other food related courses in our Culinary Arts program and Understanding Young Children in our Early Childhood Education program.
Fabulous Foods covers a variety of skills, techniques, and culinary wonders related to the fabulous power of food. This immersive experience goes beyond the realm of mere cooking; it is a celebration of the incredible influence food has on our well-being. Designed to empower students, this course offers interesting demonstrations, hands-on preparation of delicious and healthy dishes, and exploratory activities within a supportive group setting. Students are provided an opportunity to discover the art of sustainable food practices, cultivate mindfulness through conscious eating and strategic meal planning, managing food allergies and sensitivities, and master the essential skills for safe and wholesome food preparation. Students also learn and discuss research-based nutrition, the secrets of smart grocery shopping, and receive invaluable tips for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Senior Foods, is a course in foods and cooking for life. The course includes labs and demonstrations in the following units of study: breads, soups, pasta, pastry, salads, vegetables, poultry, meats and convenience cooking. Basic preparation skills, microwave cooking and the use of small appliances are emphasized. Several field trips are taken throughout the course. Students prepare recipes for each unit. Examples of recipes selected are: pizza, pasta, apple pie, specialty pies, fajitas, stir-fry dishes and more. A popular feature of the course is a unit where students use convenience products to prepare many different parts of the meal. Recipes are updated to reflect current food trends and student tastes.
Fashion and Technology is a course designed to immerse you in fashion and design. Immediately you will begin with color and design theory. Construction techniques are taught as you do the projects of your choice. The latest technology is included in machines, including sergers and embroidery machines. The topics included are what is best for you and your wardrobe, buying it right, knowing before sewing, and the technology involved in starting to sew and use textiles. You are required to furnish materials for the projects you choose to complete. Fashion and Technology can be elected more than once as a different set of skills are learned each time the course is elected.
