• Forensics FAQ

Forensics — from the ancient Greek term for ensis, referring to speaking before a forum.

    What do we do?

    • The Forensics team is the combination of the State High Speech, Debate, and Mock Trial teams. We compete in tournaments throughout the northeastern U.S. against some of the nation's top high schools in speech, debate, and drama events.
    • Our Mock Trial squad participates in the Pennsylvania State Mock Trial Tournament sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

    Why is forensics important?

No other high school activity is as rewarding to your future. Forensics teaches confidence, analysis, research, public speaking, diction, memorization, acting, and quick thinking. Students with a forensics background are highly prized by colleges. And, it's fun.

    How do I join?

Attend the weekly meetings on Thursdays after school in C214 from 3:50 - 5:30. After having picked the event you wish to compete in (go to the "Events" page on this site to learn more), you will spend each meeting learning the skills you need to do well at tournaments (eg. putting together an argument, setting up cross-examination questions, extemporaneous speaking drills, etc.). Team members are encouraged to attend weekly meetings, practice their events in earnest, and attend tournaments during the school year.
