The Discovery Process Completed So Far

Summer activities have been planned for the integrated and community-based design process in order to have a schematic design in place by end of August of this year.

A three-tiered design process is proposed by SchraderGroup in order to achieve the most District and community buy-in called the “Discovery Process.”

Meeting #1 Development of the Project Touchstones
    Duration: Approximately 3-4 hours
    Date: July 14, 2009
    Time: 5 to 9 p.m.
Place: Mount Nittany Middle School Library
Attendees: CAC for Facilities Members, District Administration, Building Administration, Teachers, Board and the design team.
This meeting will be focused first on developing a collegial relationship between all team members in an open and fun environment. We will brainstorm with the group what the Project Touchstones will be for the overall Elementary School projects. The Touchstones will be the main ideas for the projects that we constantly want to refer back to during the project. The public is invited to be part of the audience.

    Meeting # 2 Goal Setting Workshop – Charrette #1
    Duration: Full day event
    Date: July 30, 2009
    Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Mount Nittany Middle School Cafeteria
Attendees: All of the members described above as well as members of the public.
The primary goal of this charrette will be to discuss the two major projects as a whole. The three goals that we will explore will include; sustainable objectives, integrated design process objectives and educational concept objectives. There will be a significant education process in this session where we will be bringing the entire team (and public) up to speed on these topics.

While we will be investigating the key site related elements specific to each of the project sites we will also be attempting to decide whether a building design concept should be repeated on the two sites or whether each site will receive its own specific design. This will be key to the following Charrette.

Agenda for the meeting: Agenda for July 30

his session will be developed as a full design charrette process. Educational concepts, site related concepts and building related concepts will be fully explored using break out groups. The groups will come together to determine which concepts to continue with and which to eliminate. The end result of each session will hopefully be a concept developed for the design team to turn into a schematic design.

Once the concept has been developed into schematic design we envision several community-based meetings to present the overall concept and to receive continued feedback. It is important that the same stakeholders who have attended the sessions throughout the summer attend these feedback sessions so as to maintain a consistency of dialogue.

Agenda for August 13 and 14

    Public input meeting scheduled for:
7:00 PM on August 20: at the Mount Nittany Middle School Cafeteria.

Agenda for August 20 Input Meeting

As work progresses on schematic design for the Panorama Village/Boalsburg and Ferguson Township Projects, the public is invited to hear an update and offer feedback.
