A named endowment fund has been initiated at the Centre County Community Foundation to honor John R. Miller, Jr. for his expert counsel and dedicated service as the district's long-standing solicitor. The guidelines for the annual distributions from the fund were developed in consultation with John Miller to ensure that they reflect his background, world-view, and vision for the future.

The fund is therefore designated to enhance educational opportunities through the secondary Social Studies Department and through related extracurricular opportunities such as the Debate Club and Student Government. Educational initiatives supported by the annual returns from this fund are intended to sensitize students to the importance of the democratic form of local government in the United States and to support the teaching of courses on U.S. history and American government. By strengthening the students' socio-political awareness, the fund perpetuates John Miller's own professional ethics and his contributions to the field of local governance.

The John R. Miller, Jr. Fund is the district's first endowment fund in support of the social sciences and related activities. The fund was fully endowed and now generates distributions.
