As we begin a new sports season, please review these important items:
-
Student-Athlete / Parent Handbook can be found here.
-
Attendance - (PIAA Constitution and By-Laws: Article III)
-
A pupil who has been absent from school for a total of twenty (20) or more days in a semester shall not be eligible to participate in any athletic contest until he/she has attended school for a total of forty-five (45) school days following the twentieth day of absence.
-
Middle school student-athletes must be in attendance for at least the four (4) class periods of the school day immediately prior to dismissal time in order to participate in an interscholastic practice or competition on that day.
-
High school student-athletes must comply with the 9:25 a.m. sign-In/attendance time in order to participate in interscholastic practice or competition on that day. If there is a delayed start to the day, student-athletes are expected to be on-time.
-
An attendance irregularity during the last day of classes of the school week will make a student ineligible for activities during the weekend. Exceptions for absences for educational, religious and medical reasons will be made when prior approval from the student's assigned secondary school office has been granted.
-
-
Academic
-
An acceptable passing grade (D or above) must be maintained and eligibility shall be cumulative from the beginning of a grading period and reported on a weekly basis.
-
A pupil must have passed at least four (4) full-credit subjects, or the equivalent, during the previous grading period.
-
A student declared ineligible, during the season, due to grades in a preceding grading period shall be ineligible to participate for the first four weeks of the next grading period. Eligibility for the first grading period (fall) is based on your final grades for the preceding school year.
-
The student must be enrolled in and passing a minimum of four (4) full-year subjects, or its equivalent, during the active season.
-
Academic, in season eligibility runs weekly from Sunday to Sunday of a given week.
-
-
Transportation To and From Competitions:
-
It is expected that all student-athletes will use the transportation provided by the school district to travel to and from athletic contests.
-
The school district realizes that there are exceptions or extenuating circumstances that may make travel with family or friends more practical and desirable.
-
For Your Child or Household Member: Household Transportation Release Form for parents who are interested in providing alternative transportation to and/or from athletic events for their child or household member.
-
For a Non-Household Member: Non-Household Transportation Release Form for parents who are interested in providing alternative transportation to and/or from athletic events for a child who is NOT a household member.

PIAA and the NIL Rules
Name, Image and Likeness. Students may receive consideration for the use of their own name, image and likeness (NIL). Such permissible activities include:
- commercial endorsements,
- promotional activities,
- social media presence,
- product or service advertisements,
- unique digital items/assets.
NIL contracts/agreements need to come from analysis of the value an athlete brings for providing a specific service/activity, not as an incentive for enrollment decisions or membership on a team.
NOTE: No school or anyone employed by or affiliated with a member school, including booster clubs, coaches, collectives, administrators and alumni, may solicit, arrange, negotiate or pay for a student’s, other than their own child, use of their NIL and/or the provision of consideration to a student for the use of their NIL.
In engaging in NIL activities, students MAY NOT:
- make any reference to PIAA or a PIAA member school (including the school and/or team name, nicknames, terms by which a school or team is commonly referred or identified, logo)
- wear school uniforms or school-identifying apparel or items
- endorse or promote any third-party entities, goods or services during team/school activities
- wear the apparel or display the logo, insignia, or identifying mark of an NIL partner during any team/school athletic activities, unless it is part of the standard school uniform for that sport
- engage in any NIL activities involving, displaying or endorsing the following categories of products and services:
- Adult entertainment products and services;
- Alcohol products;
- Casinos and gambling, including sports betting, the lottery, and betting in connection with video games, on-line games and mobile devices;
- Tobacco and electronic smoking products and devices;
- Opioids and prescription pharmaceuticals;
- Controlled dangerous substances;
- Weapons, firearms and ammunition.
Students must notify the Principal/Athletic Director if they enter into any type of NIL contracts/agreements within 72 hours (or prior to the next contest) after entering into the agreement.
Please See NIL Informational Resource from NFHS
