Fuhrman Receives Intellectual Freedom Award
State High librarian Cathi Fuhrman has received the 2024 American Association of School Librarians’ Intellectual Freedom Award. Since 1982, the award has annually gone to individuals who uphold the intellectual freedom principles set forth by the AASL and the American Library Association.

Board Approves New Student Services Director
The Board of Directors approved Stephanie Beaver to be the district’s next director of student services. She comes to the district from Lewisburg ASD and succeeds Jeanne Knouse, who is retiring in June with 17 years in the district.

Board Approves New Human Resources Director
The Board recently approved Michelle Simpson to be the district’s new human resources executive director and compliance/Title IX officer. Simpson joins the district from the Bellefonte Area School District, where she had been the human resources director since 2016.

CEEL Site Supervisor Becomes U.S. Citizen
Gray’s Woods Elementary School already loved Antonio Rascon-Gato for who he is when it celebrated what he had become. Rascon-Gato, the Community Education Extended Learning program site supervisor for Gray’s Woods, proudly gained United States citizenship on Feb. 2.

SCASDReads Aloud K-12 Family Night
The literary engineering was part of this year’s rollicking SCASDReads Aloud K-12 Family Night on Feb. 7, a culminating, two-hour festival at the high school organized by the district’s library department to celebrate books and writing.
