Welcome to First Grade Miss Housel's Class, Room 252

  •

Welcome to first grade in Room 252 at Easterly Parkway Elementary! This year is going to be a fun and exciting one! We have 18 amazing students, myself, and a paraprofessional in our classroom. Academic success is important and all efforts will be taken daily to make school a comfortable place to grow and communicate together.

A big thank you to the PTO for purchasing school supplies for our room! In addition to these supplies, please have your child bring in the following items on the first day of school.

    1 container of Clorox Wipes

    1 foaming hand soap

1 box of quart size or gallon size ziplock bags

1 or 2 boxes of Kleenex Tissues

1 pair of headphones or earbuds. Please open the headphones and label them with a sharpie/tape label BEFORE sending them into school.

NOT REQUIRED, BUT DONATIONS THAT ARE APPRECIATED

    Roll of paper towels

Bulk snacks (In kindergarten, the teachers provided snack. Each student should bring their own snack daily in first grade!)

    August 2019

    Hello everyone!

Welcome to first grade in Room 252! My name is Miss Housel and I will be your child’s first grade teacher this year! There is something magical about first grade and I can’t wait for you to join me on what is sure to be an exciting journey! Also, if your child goes by another name or nickname, please email that name to me as soon as possible so that I can prepare their beginning of the year materials appropriately.

I have been a teacher since 2014 with all of my time teaching in SCASD! I have taught 4th grade my entire career, but I’m excited to add 1st grade to that list also! I joined EP (from PFE) in 2015 as a fourth grade teacher and I am so excited to be in first grade this year!

We are going to have an amazing time this year! We will become even BETTER readers than we already are, become number experts, learn all sorts of new math skills, and work on author and illustrator skills in writing. This year we will also work together to solve The Great Pizza Mystery, improve our world around us by Going Green, and have fun with our Community Playground unit. We will also work on being respectful and responsible members of our class, school, and local community!

This summer, I spent a lot of time with my mom, Tammy, my dad, Garret, and my brother, Colton. We took a couple of close trips to visit family and explore our great state of PA, went to Knoebel’s, and spent time at the Grange Fair. I also enjoy campfires and going to the beach. We all had a wonderful summer and I can’t wait to hear about what you all did this summer as well! I hope to see you all at the Ice Cream Social on Thursday, August 22nd between 3:30pm and 4:30pm! Please contact me before that, though, if you have any questions or concerns.  I have found email to be the most efficient means of parent communication for me, so please don’t hesitate to drop me a line.

I am so excited to start a great year with you on Monday, August 26th!

    Excitedly,

    Katie Housel
