Hi everyone, my name is Chris Lutz, and I am thrilled to be teaching 2nd grade here at Gray's Woods Elementary during Mrs. Petersen's maternity leave. Phew, you can finally exhale now that you know who the new teacher who will be!

I am a recent graduate from Penn State University's Professional Development School program. After interning in Mrs. Kauffman's classroom last year, this will be my third year teaching 2nd grade at Gray's Woods Elementary. Getting to work with our amazing 2nd grade team during last school year prepared me with a wealth of experience with State College's curriculum and data collection, specifically in 2nd grade. You may have heard that your students have been participating in an Inquiry Hour investigation this year surrounding their own learning habits and preferences. During my internship, I conducted my own classroom inquiry built around a unit that promoted leadership opportunities for students. My classroom emphasizes building a strong community to allow for opportunities to work in cooperative groups to critically think and tackle tasks. As a result, there are ample opportunities for students to take on leadership roles and work as a team.

Outside of the classroom, I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA and have lived in State College for 4 years after moving here before my junior year at Penn State. I absolutely love the State College area and have adopted it as my home away from home, Gray's Woods especially! In addition to teaching 2nd grade, I have a passion for playing, watching, and coaching ice hockey. I enjoy outdoor activities such as rock climbing and whitewater rafting. During the summer I work with students with visual impairments in a summer program hosted by Penn State. I am a HUGE Pittsburgh Penguins and Penn State hockey fan! Currently, I am working with the U12 Icers team and Penn State's learn to skate program. You may also recognize me coaching intramural sports at Gray's Woods with the 4th and 5th-grade students. If you see me outside of school, don't hesitate to say hi! I'm always up for a conversation.

Finally, I pride myself on being as responsive to the needs and interests of the class as possible. If you have any further questions or comments please feel free to contact me by email at cjl26@scasd.org. I'm looking forward to having an amazing year with all of your students. :)
