COVID-19 NOTICE for 2020-2021
Because of COVID-19 protocols, a number of attendance exceptions are being made for the school year. While in effect, the three-day window to turn in excuse notes has been expanded to five days, and emails from approved parent/guardian accounts will be accepted as written excuses. Remote instruction will be treated the same as physical, in-school instruction for attendance purposes - students missing or late to remote classes will require excuse notes as if they were absent from school.
Safe Arrival Phone Number: 814-235-4592
If you know that your child will be late/absent, please call the above phone number and leave a message with the following information: date, student name, and grade/teacher. You will still need to provide an excuse note/email or fax (814)235-6214.
Main Office Phone Number: 814-231-4115
If you have questions about attendance or need to speak with our office staff, please call the above phone number.Late To SchoolStudents who arrive after 8:09 a.m. will need to sign in at the office for a late pass. Parents/guardians will need to provide a note explaining the reason for the late arrival. Notes stating the student overslept or missed the bus, traffic, among others are not considered legitimate excuses for tardiness. Unexcused late minutes will be added and counted toward full day absences.Absence ExcusesIf you have reported your child's absence via a Safe Arrival or other phone call, please know that we appreciate your call. However, state law requires an Absence Excuse for all absences to be returned to school within 72 hours of the date of absence. Excuses sent after the 72 hour window are considered unexcused.3 or more unexcused absences: After accruing 3 days of unexcused absences, a First Offense will be filed. Further absences may require parents to attend a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) meeting, or may provoke a Second Offense being filed.10 or more absences with parent notes (not counting Educational Trips or Doctor Excused): Parents will receive attendance letters in the mail to notify them of the limit, and doctor excuses will be required for any additional absences.Educational TripsPlease fill out and send an SCASD Educational Trip Form to the Attendance Secretary listing the dates you are requesting as educational trip days (not to exceed 10 days in any academic year). These signed forms must be turned in to the Main Office to be reviewed by the Principal for approval.ContactTonya SmealRadio Park Attendance Secretarytms18@scasd.org814-231-4115
