• Hello!

Welcome to my SCASD Webpage! My name is Elisabeth James (she/her),

and I am the Mental Health Clinician for the State College Area High School. I started my journey in this position in 2021 and enjoy working with students to help them learn coping skills to navigate life's ups and downs.

Before becoming a Mental Health Clinician, I obtained my M.Ed. in Counselor Education from the Pennsylvania State University, emphasizing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in Schools and Communities. Before obtaining my Master's, I received a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University. I am under the supervision of Dr. Katie Kostohryz, the liaison between Penn State's Herr Clinic and SCASD Partnership, as I work towards my License in Professional Counseling (LPC).

Through counseling, I aim to help clients learn more about themselves, the events that have made them who they are, and overcome struggles they may face. Every client is unique and works to meet students where they are in the therapeutic journey while providing empathy, connection, and support. I offer one-on-one and group sessions based on availability.

If you are facing barriers to receiving mental health services and want to start seeing a district therapist, please ask your school counselor to fill out a School-Based Mental Health Referral.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me via email at emc36@scasd.org. If you would like to learn more about me and the work I am involved in, please visit my personal Google site: https://sites.google.com/scasd.org/elisabethjames/about-me.
